True Fasting

August 13, 2007

Isaiah 58:6-7a

Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor that are cast out…

Today’s my day in the collaborative 40 day fast.  So I called my friend Bernard.   For over 20 years Bernard has had a burning, restless passion to mobilize Christians to give generously to the poor.  He has now begun a ministry called Good Measure.  He is always looking for “ministries that work in the poorest parts of the world, who are good stewards of their resources, and who share the Gospel and disciple believers as they address physical needs.”

Today Bernard told me about Sewa Ashram, a ministry in India that he recently visited. These saints drive through New Delhi, scoop dying people off the streets, bring them for emergency medical care, and give them a place to live in their community.  How cool is that?

If you would like to give to this ministry, you can do so by clicking here.  When you get to the Paypal page, enter “Support for Sewa Ashram” in the item box.  100% of your gift will go directly to them.
