It’s a distinction that Luther makes in the Heidelberg Disputation and that Gerhard Forde wrote a great book about. I mentioned it for the first time in a sermon last week. If you’d like to read more, here’s a helpful chart made by my virtual friend John, a Lutheran from London.
Penn (of Penn and Teller) on Proselytizing

Politics
December 11, 2008Rarely do I say anything like this out loud, but allow me a couple of brief comments:
1) When I first heard what our governor did, I indulged in a little schadenfreude and had a good laugh. But after a couple of hours, the moral outrage kicked in. I mean, it’s one thing to line your pockets by taking bribes to give away business contracts. But selling a US Senate seat?! That’s one of the top 2 or 3 most powerful positions in the nation. That seems almost treasonous.
2) The Freedom of Choice Act, which Obama has promised to sign, will eradicate state and federal abortion laws the majority of Americans support. FOCA will do away with state laws on parental involvement, on partial-birth abortion, and will compel taxpayer funding of abortions.
